Weekends In Connecticut

This past weekend was busy, busy, busy. On Saturday after all the errands were run, it was time to prep a little garden space. We’ve been cleaning up outside, preparing for some serious planting next summer and I decided I’d add some color in the meantime. This weekend I decided to work on a little spot in front of the house and plant mums. I love mums. I love fall. I love pumpkins. So with mums so plentiful I figured I’d plant them rather than just set the containers around the house like I usually do.

By lunch time on Saturday I had all my mums and cabbage plants planted. When they bloom I’ll post a picture of them, I promise.

On Sunday we headed out of Connecticut to the Hudson Valley area of New York for the Hudson Valley Wine and Food Fest. It was our first time and it was fun. Tons of wine, food vendors and cooking demonstrations. We bought jams, vinegars and salad dressings. As for the jams, I found a raspberry chocolate jam. O.M.G. Totally delish!

After we left the wine & food festival we headed over to the Vanderbilt mansion, Hyde Park, for a tour. Apparently this mansion is the most modest, unstated mansions within the Vanderbilt family. LOL! I guess it’s a mini-mansion.

The Vanderbilts used this house in the spring and in the fall.

Sadly, we missed the full bloom of the gardens. I would have liked to have seen the rose garden in bloom.

Walking around the spent garden did get my inner-gardener all revved up for fall planting. As I walked around the garden I kept thinking about my little mum garden and of the bulbs I’ll be planting soon.

The weekend is over and it’s back to work and back to writing and back to my study-group. So far we’ve had the introductions and on Thursday our leader posted her first lecture along with our first assignments. We were asked to post the opening of our current WIP then read From Protagonist to Hero in the workbook and do the activities about adding heroic qualities to our hero & heroine. I posted my opening and guess what I need to do tonight? That’s right. I have to pull out my workbook and read the chapter. And do the exercises.

So, that means I have to get going.

Happy writing,
