More Snow

Woke up to this.

It kinda snowed all day yesterday but nothing stuck to the ground. Mother Nature made up for it over night and she’s still going strong. But I guess the bright side is that I have a few extra hours today to write…after I spend some quality time with the snow blower.

The Big Dig

It snowed here in Connecticut.

That’s the back door.

We got at least 18 inches of snow. It was a long process to dig out and thankfully we had the snow blower and we didn’t lose power.

This is how we got through the Blizzard of 2013.

Then we cleared out the snow. Lunch, more clean-up outside and then I read my CP’s latest chapter. Before we knew it, it was dinner time. A snow day begs for pizza!

Today it’s sunny, warmer and there’s no wind. Man, yesterday the wind was coming from all directions. So it was a good day to take the pups out for a little fun. Susie loves the snow. She can’t get enough of it. Billy? He prefers to stay in on the sofa and look out the window at the snow. Two very different dogs.

Susie came upon a pile of snow and wanted to see what was beyond.

And lastly, today is Susie’s 9th birthday. I’ve assured the pup that there’s no need to feel older, after all 9 is the new 6.

Healthy Living Survey

While visiting some of my favorite blogs, I came across this Healthy Living Survey over at Carrots n’ Cake. Tina had stumbled upon it at Lindsay’s List. It looked like fun and I decided to take the survey and here are my answers.

1. What did you eat for breakfast?

Two egg whites, half an egg yolk with spinach on multi-grain bread.

2. How much water do you drink a day?

Around 48 ounces a day.

3. What is your current favorite workout?

My treadmill. I’m totally into walking these days and I get to watch television. That’s a two’fer I can’t pass up. I look forward to my walks and I’m using the incline feature to help power-up my time walking. But the best time I have when walking is when I’m out with the pups.

4. How many calories do you eat a day?

I don’t know. I stopped counting calories and now eat based on hunger.

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?

Depends on the season. I have an apple every afternoon with plain greek yogurt. But now, I’m enjoying clementines.

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?

These days I’ve been eating sandwiches. Honey-maple chicken with a slice of American cheese.

7. What is your favorite body part to train?


8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?

I really don’t have a least favorite body part to train. But I think the upper body is the most challenging part for me to train.

8. What are your “bad” food cravings?

Great question. These days I’m not eating a lot of Frankenfood (processed foods loaded with chemicals to make them tasty) so I don’t have a big list of “bad” foods. In fact, what I am reaching for these days is pretty much healthy. Now for cravings? I usually like salty when it comes to cravings. So, it would be potato chips.

9. Do you take vitamins or supplements?

I used to. Religiously. Then a report came out about the potential dangers of taking a multi-vitamin and I watched a Dr. Oz show. I’m confused about vitamins and supplements. It’s something I want to figure out so that I’m making a knowledgeable decision.

10. How often do you eat out?

Does take-out count? Maybe twice a month. We really don’t go out much. I like to cook.

11. Do you eat fast food?

Rarely. I can’t remember my last fast-food meal.

13. Who is your biggest supporter?

My husband. The G-Man.

14. Do you have a gym membership?


15. How many hours a sleep do you get?

7-8 hours.

16. Do you have a cheat day?

You mean days when I eat things like this? My cheat days are when I bake. So December is one long cheat day. 🙂

17. Do you drink alcohol?

No. I’ll have a glass of wine if I’m using it in a recipe. Why let it go to waste?

18. Do you have a workout buddy>

Yes, if you count my two Shih-Tzus who think the mat means it’s time for group activity. Otherwise, no.

19. What is the best thing that has changed about you since committing to a Healthy Lifestlyle?

There are so many things, but I think the best think is that over forty I’m feeling really good.

20. What was the last last healthy thing you did?

Treadmill workout. day.

To Sprint or Not to Sprint

I’m currently taking a class over at SavvyAuthors, Writing a Short Story for an Anthology Call Out with Louisa Bacio. One of the assignments has been to do a writing sprint. Set aside an hour of writing and write 1,000 words. I decided to give it a try. Last night I wrote just over a 1,000 words for my novella, which has a projected word count of 12,000 words. This writing was fast and the end result wasn’t pretty. But I have new words to polish and edit. Inspired by my successful sprint last night, I did a mini-one this evening. And right now I have 5,013 words total. The line I am targeting has a minimum word count of 10,000. So I’m halfway there. Woo-hoo.

I’ll be sprinting again.

Look What I Won!

I’ve been meaning to share this awesome prize that I won in mid-December, but things got all crazy (holidays and other stuff). But, here it is

Snow Day and A New Chapter

It snowed again. This round was heavy, wet snow. It was not a pleasant experience clearing the driveway but I got my cardio and toning session in for the day.

I was able to get a few photos today. One of our resident deers was out early this morning. Then later in the day, Stella and BB (Baby Bird) was out. After a quick bite to eat, one of the turkeys took a drink of water in our stream. When I was finished clearing the slushy, heavy snow I headed back inside to work on chapter seven of my new WIP. It’s progressing nicely and I’ve just sent two more chapters to my critique partner to read through.
